The EarthCARE Validation Campaign in Thessaloniki has been concluded.
From April 22 to May 22, 2025, three coordinated sites (Urban – Kedek, Semi-urban – AUTH campus, Rural – Epanomi) were aligned with satellite overpasses.
One of Europe’s most exciting atmospheric science campaigns – and the skies over Thessaloniki, Epanomi, and the AUTH campus are buzzing with instruments, sensors, and satellite overpasses!
With the participation of: PMOD/WRC, University of Zurich, National Observatory of Athens, University of Patras, Eratosthenis Centre of Excellence, LAP-AUTH (Host).
Key Campaign Objectives:
Validate EarthCARE satellite products (aerosols & clouds)
Analyze solar radiation variability across different environments
Test & compare low-cost and handheld instruments
Explore 3D cloud structures
